DE-STRESSING: Exercise as much as you possibly can.
Forget about finding the "dream spot" in the parking lot. Unless you are in a terrible rush, it is no longer to your benefit. Walk at every opportunity. Forget the drive-through! Walk three times around the restaurant before you go inside. Get creative. And if you don't already have them, invest in some free weights for your dwindling upper body strength. Use them whenever and wherever: in front of the TV, at your desk, on the phone, at the gas station while your car is eating your wallet, or while you take your very necessary 30 minute morning walk. You can spell it "mourning" walk if you choose, but you still have to do it. Aim for 5-6 mornings a week. A.M. exercise burns more stored fat and calories than P.M., and will increase your feelings of well-being for almost seven hours thereafter. You will find the day less stressful, sleep more soundly, and may possibly stave off a flash or two to boot.
Take deep breaths as you flash...8 counts inhale, 4 counts hold, 8 counts exhale. Shoulders back, chest out! Poor posture limits the amount of good work your lungs can do. Always "come back to the breath" in all matter of stress. You'll be surprised how much it helps.
Look for a good yoga or tai chi or stretching class in your area. Consider a monthly massage, acupuncture, or osteopathy treatment. All of these methods have the potential to be of great help to you. Your task is to find out which of them benefits you the most, then stick with it. Spend less money on how you look, and more on how you feel.
Feng Shui your home environment. This isn't only in reference to placement of items in your surroundings. Feng Shui also stresses simplification and organization of all that is in your home....your closet, your drawers, your medicine chest, your kitchen, your refrigerator etc. Downsize, divest, get rid of broken things, re-organize and you will find yourself having more energy and feelings of well-being. Good advice even if you aren't in menopause.
